Hi West Park Wildcats and Russell Rams!
I’m sitting at my computer, as I often do these days, thinking about how much fun it would be to get to hold hands and dance and sing in circles with all of you! Wow! Things sure have changed.
I have received video clips from some of you. I’ve heard you singing and watched you dance along with your singing, and I’ve watched and listened to one of you drumming along with one of our songs.
I really hope that all of you will send me a short email telling me how you’re doing or about what you have been doing musically. Or, you don’t need to say a word. Just record yourself playing, singing, or moving and send it to my email address. I can't tell you how much it brightens my spirits to get to see you.
It is hard for me to think of putting videos and pictures of myself on here, but I will. You are 'good enough'. Whatever you send, it is only to me. You can send a picture of you hitting two sticks together, or a full-fledged rock song. I love it all!

We’re ‘Goin’ On a Bear Hunt’
The Moscow Elementary Music/P.E./Movement Specialists would like to invite you to join us in a ‘Goin’ On a Bear Hunt’ trek. This is kind of like a scavenger hunt, except that you will be looking for bears instead of collecting things. Some of you might already know about this through Facebook. People will place bears and other stuffed animals in windows and on the front porches of their houses. When you and your family are out taking a walk or riding your bikes, you can look for the animals and wave at them!
‘Goin On a Bear Hunt’ is a book by Michael Rosen. When I was a child at girl scout camp, we chanted this adventure and acted it out, but back then, we were going on a lion hunt.
On Monday, April 6, we will be posting a YouTube video of the author reading this book. I will send you the video link and will also post it on our music website.
Here’s what you do:
Please make sure that you are with an adult whenever you go out.
Follow PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY ORDER No. 20-01: There shall be no gatherings in groups of more than ten (10) persons within the boundaries of the City of Moscow.
Families from all over Moscow, and all over the world, will be taking part. In fact, I drove around a little today and already saw several windows expressing their love! If you look online, with your parents’ help, you will see love shining from cities everywhere.
Keep a special lookout for the ‘senior bears’ on BIG display which will be made by the seniors at Moscow High School. The seniors will be making collages, bear pride bling, and other displays in front of their homes. We hope that seeing bears, lights, hearts, and animals will remind you of how much we love you and are thinking of you.
Happy hunting!

Here’s what you do:
- Watch the video.
- Put bears or any kind of animal somewhere where people can easily see them. You can also put up lights and hearts. You can color and scotch-tape pictures to the windows, if your parents will let you.
- Go on a walk or out for a bike ride with your family and look for the lights, hearts, and animals.

This link will take all of you to a wonderful list of songs. We have sung many of these songs in our music classroom. John Feierabend lives in Hartford, CT. One summer, I went there and spent a couple of weeks (and a couple thousand dollars) taking his classes. He has a competition each year at the university where he teaches. The art students create illustrations for a book each year and he selects one to be published. The books are actually American folk songs. 'No More Pie' is a song from his collection.
This is Erik. He is tuning our piano.
Because we hadn’t had it tuned in, FOREVER (I know, and I’m a music teacher!), he had to come back a second time. He told me that the sound board on a piano this size bears 3 tons of weight. The bass tones hold about 300 pounds each and the middle and high sounds hold about 150 pounds each! We are getting ready to welcome all of you into our home, so we thought we should start with an in-tune good piano. (Notice the toilet paper all over the place! A sign of our times.)
Things to do during this time
Build a fort!
Learn to play an instrument!
Make your own instruments!
